Ital Rest is founded on the Rasta ideology of Ital, or natural, organic living. They work on a small-scale using a community-based, holistic approach, and employ sustainable, low-impact methods with the environment in mind.
Their two cottages are set within lush gardens, two minute’s walk from a secluded swimming cove, on the beautiful, wild coast of Treasure Beach, Southern Jamaica.
The two cottages each have two airy, candle-lit bedrooms, which can sleep up to three. Each room has a private bathroom, and two large verandas overlooking the mountains on one side, and the sea on the other.
The gardens are landscaped with over sixteen kinds of fruit tree, including pomegranate, mango, lime, almond and guava, as well as fragrant frangipani trees, jasmine, hibiscus and poinciana flowers, providing a habitat for many kinds of butterfly and hummingbird.
The garden café provides a shady spot to enjoy some great tunes, a game of dominoes or table tennis, a drink, or a bite to eat, in a classic Jamaican ‘yard’. Vegetarian and vegan dishes available on request. The cottage is in reference to the whole house (both the upstairs and downstairs rooms) of which you rented one. When you rent just the upstairs room you would share the kitchen with the folks downstairs or if you rent both rooms (the cottage) then you would have the kitchen to yourselves.
With the dramatic backdrop of the Santa Cruz mountains, and two nearby lagoons which form habitat for over sixty species of bird (including ospreys, ibis, hummingbirds and large flocks of pelicans), the cottages are surrounded by outstanding natural beauty.
Peaceful, friendly and affordable, Ital Rest is the perfect place to escape from the bustle of the world, and chill with gentle, heartical new friends.
I had the pleasure of staying here in October of 2008 and I have to tell you, this is the ultimate get-a-way from it all. The cottage was so peacful and even though there is no electricity, it was a great experience.
The owners are wonderful people and the view from our cottage was over the top. Sitting on the verandas was such a daily treat and I will return here again in the very near future.
The rates to stay here are very reasonable:
- US$40 per room per night
- US$50 per room per night
